[quagga-users 1382] Routing question with ospf

Hello all,

I'm using OSPF on two Debian boxes to connect a remote network
to our local network. The remote network is a routable subnet and I'm
using a non-routable subnet for the tunnel. 10.100.100.1 is the local
tunnel router, 10.100.100.2 is the route router. Everything is in area 0.

When the tunnel is constructed, we get the following route:
C>* 10.100.100.2/32 is directly connected, ppp0
When OSPF finishes exchanging routes, I have this:
O>* 10.100.100.1/32 [110/20] via 10.100.100.2, ppp0, 6d20h09m

Now consider the remote router. When the tunnel is up:
C>* 10.100.100.1/32 is directly connected, ppp0
	When OSPF has converged:
O>* 10.100.100.2/32 [110/20] via 10.100.100.1, ppp0, 6d20h14m

So, according to the routing tables, traffic destined for each
machine's tunnel must be routed through the remote router. How does
work well? This isn't so much something wrong, but just a lack of
understanding on my part. Thanks for any help!

Judging by ping times, these routes aren't actually being
followed. From 10.100.100.1:
redwood:/etc/ppp# ping -c 1 10.100.100.1
PING 10.100.100.1 (10.100.100.1): 56 data bytes
64 bytes from 10.100.100.1: icmp_seq=0 ttl=255 time=0.3 ms

redwood:/etc/ppp# ping -c 1 10.100.100.2
PING 10.100.100.2 (10.100.100.2): 56 data bytes
64 bytes from 10.100.100.2: icmp_seq=0 ttl=64 time=58.0 ms
